Imagine the carnage that would ensue at home if kids couldn’t watch YouTube on their tablet, play online games on their Xbox, or stream Frozen on the TV. Even just thinking about this scenario is enough to bring on heart palpitations in any modern-day parent.
Broadband in Schools
Broadband plays just as crucial a role in the day-to-day operations of every modern school, as it does in every modern home. Because of this, it’s extremely important that each school is compliant with the basic requirements for broadband within schools, as outlined in guidelines published by the UK Safer Internet Centre.
These basic requirements include:
- The filtering provider should be a member of the Internet Watch Foundation.
- Filtering should be completed correctly according to the UK Safer Internet Centre.
- Firewalls must have features that match the required level of reporting according to the UK Safer Internet Centre.
- Connection speeds must be fit for purpose relative to a school’s individual circumstances.
Broadband in practice
In principle meeting these basic requirements, should be, well, basic. But as we all know, things in the school in environment are anything but simple. This is why at Concero we help our customers achieve this crucial compliance, as meeting these basic requirements for broadband forms a key part of our Development Plan recommendations. The compliance tracking abilities of our Baseline software then allows both us, and our customers to track their compliance relative to these requirements.
